Dulwich Village FC Under 15 KYL Team Match Report - written by a parent
After a bit of a stuttering start to the season for one reason and another, the U15 KYL side returned to action on Sunday against Bromley.
It was quite a spectacular return, with parents seated in the covered stand of the main stadium at Bromley FC with all the promise of an exciting restart. We certainly might be looking for the lap of luxury at all of our games from now on!
And what a restart it was, with Dulwich dominating and taking an early lead with a Stavros screamer flying across the keeper into the top corner. The strong start was not least due to the dominant efforts of Ryan in the midfield.
Unfortunately, the dominance of Ryan was cut short with a freak injury which led to a long delay and hospital visit, followed by the devastating news after the match that we would be without Ryan's midfield prowess for at least a month. The good news however that aside from the lack of football for a while, Ryan is ok and will be able to return to the fold after his enforced break.
Equally heartening was the strong performance from Archie who stepped in to cover the hole left by Ryan.
The players kept warm and entertained themselves with some fun shooting drills, and a little mini game during the break. Once the game re-started, Dulwich maintained their control until just before half time when a silly foul led to a Bromley free kick that never quite got cleared before bobbling in to even the score a few seconds before the whistle.
The second half continued with Dulwich having firm control of the game and getting into some great scoring positions but never quite managing to find the net.
The defensive line of Zeb, Milo, Lukas and Fillipo kept Bromley frustrated and struggling to break through with the ball being pushed back into the Bromley half each time they unsuccessfully resorted to attempting the long ball over the top to their big forwards. Lots of oohs and ahhs as shots ricocheted off the woodwork of the Bromley goal, or just didn’t drop in time, but alas – the promise of a goal fest never quite materialised.
With the Bromley parents counting the seconds to the final whistle, and a bit of time wasting being applied by their players, they seemed happy with the final whistle signalling a 1-1 end to the game.
The disappointment of the Dulwich players, coaches, and parents not to have walked away with all three points was evident. This truly was a case of the score line not reflecting the fantastic football and total one-sided display that had taken place in that beautiful stadium.
Still, the lesson learned by Dulwich has to be to put away those chances, to get the ball on the ground and play football, but mostly to believe that we are definitely the newcomers to keep an eye on this season!
